Some of the best Rubies in the World come from the Moguk Valley region in Myanmar (formerly Burma). The Moguk rubies are known for their rich red Pigeon Blood Colour.
Not many rubies are found in Moguk today.
Sapphires and Rubies are actually the same mineral Corundum and different impurities give rubies their red colour and sapphire their blue colour.
The most expensive Ruby is 25.59 carat “Sunrise Ruby”(pictured above), sold by Sotheby’s in Geneva in 2015 for US$30million.
It is Untreated (it is common to heat treat and glass fill inclusions in rubies) and is considered among the finest and rarest gemstones.
The Sunrise Ruby has been mounted in a ring by Cartier between two Diamonds (2.47 and 2.7 carats).
