A Prayer for Owen Meany (Published in 1989) was John Irving’s seventh novel.
Set in a small New Hampshire town during the 1950s and 1960s, the story is told through the eyes of John Wheeleright and follows his boyhood friendship with the remarkable Owen Meany, through to young adulthood.

Irving discusses the value of friendship, and the issues of faith, religion, politics and war.
