A collection of Chinese antiques, belonging to a British farmer, Roger Pilkington, has sold at auction for £45 million.
The collection, consisting of around 100 pieces from the Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties, dating from the 7th century to the 20th century. They had been collected by Mr Pilkington between 1950 and 1969, when he passed away at the age of 40.
Mr Pilkington had paid between £100 and £140,000 for the items, at the time.
The collection has been retained by his family since his death until they put the collection up for auction by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong earlier this month.
